Existing
on the site was the Holy Ghost Church, a designated historic landmark that
was heavily endowed by a prominent local benefactor. In order to preserve
this popular, actively used church and develop a 42-story high-rise commercial
office building on the remaining property, a sensitive, yet pragmatic, solution
was required. The
solution respects the integrity of the church, works with the constraints
of a tight triangular site and offers an exciting urban space for pedestrians.
Facing the church, a concave wall cradles and offsets the house of worship
while framing a view of the Rocky Mountains. Facing away from the church,
a corner wall presents a crisp, clean shape to the city's central business
district. This corner, anchored by its gleaming stainless steel column,
terminates a visual axis along Broadway. |
