Colorado State Capitol            Life Safety Upgrades
Denver, Colorado
USA

The Life Safety Upgrades project was designed to make the Capitol a safer environment for the working tenants and over 250,000 annual visitors. The six-year, six-phase project allows for incremental financing, continual operation and minimal disruption of legislative functions.  It requires sensitivity and care to ensure the safety upgrades are appropriately integrated to protect the building’s historic fabric. Upon completion, Colorado’s most important architectural landmark will retain its historic grandeur while functioning safely and efficiently into the 21st century.

The design team identified and resolved the life safety deficiencies with the addition of new state-of-the-art, addressable smoke detection and fire alarm and suppression systems, a fast acting fire sprinkler system, a new fire command center, pressurized enclosed stairwells, exit signage and an emergency generator and lighting.
