National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
USA

The firm won a national design competition for the renovation and expansion of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, which was renamed the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in 2000. The museum sought a design to echo the visions that spurred westward expansion in the 19th century: a desire for more, a dream of the future and a readiness to explore the possibility of greatness.

Fentress' design metaphorically and physically recognizes the merits of the original building. Inspiration came from the established design inspirations of Oklahoma-namely the covered wagons, camp tents and rolling prairie forms. These features primarily materialized into the roof lines.
