Built
in 1947, the central terminal is the airport's oldest structure. The project
is organized around a new central security checkpoint, which consolidates
two separate checkpoints at concourses B and C. Once passengers pass through
the new central checkpoint, they enter a central civic hall. The hall
houses art, interactive educational experiences and distinctive opportunities
for commercial and concession outlets. Clear and unobstructed views to
the gigantic flight information display allow passengers to relax and
enjoy the hall. A new 60-foot tall, westward-facing curtainwall in the
hall will afford travelers panoramic views of the airfield, the Olympic
Mountains and Mount Rainier. "Streets," reminiscent of Seattle
landmarks such as Pioneer Square and Pikes Market, lead passengers to
concourses.
